Artist Spotlight: Tamara Jestice

For this month’s artist spotlight, we are diving into the wonderful world of Tamara Jestice (Tam), a kind-hearted and fun mixed media artist. Her artworks are full of bright, colorful designs that she creates on the pages of art journals, canvases, and digitally. While marveling at Tam’s art, each piece radiates a sense of happiness that welcomes the viewer to smile. It’s awesome watching her get to work on a project, especially when her art takes on a life of its own through the process of discovery.

Early life:

Tam can’t pinpoint the exact moment she began to identify as an artist. Art has always seemed to have a place in her life. She thrived in childhood art classes and has stated that she’s always enjoyed creating above anything else. Its grasp on her started before she could remember, and she has embraced it by using art to inspire others, discover things about herself, and advocate for the healing power art can have on a person.

A world changing event:

Tam’s world changed in 2018 when she was affected by a severe medical event. She describes how the incident led to a near-death experience in 2020. After this happened, she began to lean into her art even more.

“After that, I started making more mixed media and art journaling.”   -Tamara Jestice

She explores many important themes including healing through art, living in the present moment, and inner freedom. Her pieces provide a window into her journey of self-discovery, creativity, and peace.

Works:

At the core of Tam’s practice is an ongoing exploration of contrast and balance that makes it clear her art is deeply intentional.

“I love studying the juxtaposition between old and new in both my analog and digital art.” — Tamara Jestice

Her work includes a variety of forms and subjects. Tam features shapes, people, words, and images from nature. With bursts of color, dynamic patterns, and uplifting messages, her art draws the viewer into her mesmerizing world.

Tam uses a variety of supplies, including colored pencils, markers, and fun pens. She is creative and resourceful, even going as far as making her own gesso from scratch to prime her surfaces!

Connection:

When she isn’t creating her mixed media masterpieces, Tam offers light and joy to those who interact with her on a daily basis. For example, she works a full-time job supporting seniors through activities they participate in. As a content creator, Tam continues to foster an environment of growth and healing through her videos and inspiring words. She has a large community of artist friends and admirers on social media, and she is currently building a brand-new website to showcase her work.
